Hello! My name is Tammy Meyer and I am the owner of

The Child Centered Home, a home-based preschool program

located in Temecula, CA. My career working with children

began over 20 years ago when I was a student at California

State University, Long Beach. I started as an undeclared

major at CSULB, with the thought of becoming a photographer.

I had it in my mind that I was going to be the next Anne

Geddes. My passion for photography slowly fizzled when I

started getting B's & C's on my photographs. In my mind I

thought, "How can you grade art?" I was also less than fond

of the smell of the chemicals in the dark room (too bad digital

photography wasn't around then). One day I was walking back

to my dorm room, frustrated by my photography midterm,

thinking about why I was so interested in photography anyway. I started to think about the ants on the ground, the birds flying above, the detail of the bark on the trees. Those things interested me. I was like a kid. So I started thinking about an interest I had way back when I was little...being a teacher. However, I knew I didn't want to stand in front of a classroom of children in little desks. There had to be another way of working with children! So when I got back to my dorm room, I decided to look through my college catalog and it opened right to the Child Development Department. As I started to read about the degree program and the classes, I got more and more excited. I decided to enroll in one Child Development class the next semester to see what it was like.

I took my first Child Development Class in Spring 1994....and I LOVED IT! It was the first time I could read a textbook from cover to cover without putting it down. I was equally as excited about every other Child Development Class I took from then on, and I earned my BA in Child Development and Family Studies from Cal State Long Beach in 1997.

I started working steadily in the field of Child Development and Early Childhood Education after graduation. My first job was as a substitute teacher for Bright Horizons Family Solutions at the Pacificare Child Development Center in Cypress, CA. I enjoyed that experience because I got to work with all age groups from infancy through Kindergarten. Since then I have worked in every position from substitute teacher to child care center director.

As a leader in the field, I gained experience training teachers. I enjoyed the process of gathering and presenting information to educators, and thought it would be rewarding to teach adults. I decided to pursue my Master's Degree so I could teach at the college level. In 2005 I earned my Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. My college teaching experience includes teaching for Cal State Long Beach Extension and Mt. San Jacinto College.

I have spent most of my career working in corporate-sponsored child care programs. In 2010, I started the process of licensing my home for Family Day Care, putting my years of education and experience to work for my own program. Operating my own Family Day Care program gives me the opportunity to teach children, work with parents, and be home with my own children while continuing to work in my chosen field. I received my Family Day Care license in January 2011.

I am excited about this phase of my career, and look forward to continuing to grow and learn in the field of Early Childhood Education. It would be an honor and pleasure to build a partnership with you and your family.
