Hello! My name is Tammy Meyer and I am the owner of
The Child Centered Home, a play-based preschool program
located in Temecula, CA. My preschool program is licensed
as a family child care program through the State of California.
My career working with children began over 25 years ago
when I was a student at California State University, Long Beach.
I learned about the Child Development and Family Studies program
which was a part of the Family and Consumer Science Department.
I was intrigued by the course descriptions and decided to take one
class to see if I liked it. I LOVED IT!!! It was the first time I could
remember reading a textbook from cover to cover without wanting
to put it down. I was equally fascinated by what I learned about
children's growth and development in the remaining classes that I
took in my degree program, and earned by BA in Child Development and Family Studies in 1997.
I started working steadily in the field of Child Development and Early Childhood Education after graduation. My first job was as a substitute teacher for Bright Horizons Family Solutions at the Pacificare Child Development Center in Cypress, CA. I enjoyed that experience because I got to work with all age groups from infancy through Kindergarten. Since then I have worked in every position from substitute teacher to child care center director.
As a leader in the field, I gained experience training teachers. I enjoyed the process of gathering and presenting information to educators, and thought it would be rewarding to teach adults. I decided to pursue my Master's Degree so I could teach at the college level. In 2005 I earned my Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. My college teaching experience includes teaching for Cal State Long Beach Extension and Mt. San Jacinto College.
I have spent most of my career working in corporate-sponsored child care programs. In 2010, I started the process of licensing my home for Family Day Care, putting my years of education and experience to work for my own program. Operating my own Family Day Care program gives me the opportunity to facilitate children's learning, work with parents, and be home with my own children while continuing to work in my chosen field. I received my Family Day Care license in January 2011.
Several years ago, I learned about a division of Dimensions Educational Research Foundation called Nature Explore. Nature Explore promotes, supports, and grants outdoor classroom certifications. I was granted the esteemed honor of becoming a Nature Explore Certified Outdoor Classroom in 2017, and have maintained a thriving outdoor learning environment for the children in my program ever since. You can visit my Nature Explore page at https://certified.natureexplore.org/child-centered-home/
I am excited about this phase of my career, and look forward to continuing to grow and learn in the field of Early Childhood Education. It would be an honor and pleasure to build a partnership with you and your family.
